distance fallen at half the time

I was discussing a problem with my students that went something like this:

A man stands on the edge of a cliff of height H. He holds a rock over the edge and releases it. It hits the ground after a time T has passed. How far had the rock fallen in half that time, at time T/2 after the rock was dropped?
